World Water Day 2022

World Water Day is celebrated on March 22 every year since 1993. The initiative was launched by the UN-Water organization, which aims to raise awareness of water importance and the fact that 2,2 billion people still do not have safe access to healthy water. The main focus of WWD is to support the achievement of the UN’s 6th Sustainable Development Goal: Water and Sewerge for all until 2030.

The theme of World Water Day 2022 is “GROUNDWATER – MAKING THE INVISIBLE VISIBLE”. Groundwater is invisible, but its impact is visible everywhere. Out of sight, under our feet, groundwater is a hidden treasure that enriches our lives. In the driest parts of the world, it may be the only water people have.

Almost all of the liquid freshwater in the world is groundwater, supporting drinking water supplies, sanitation systems, farming, industry and ecosystems. In many places, human activities over-use and pollute groundwater. In other places, we simply do not know how much water is down there.

Join millions of people across the world showing how groundwater affects your life using #WorldWaterDay.
