The 1st cycle of the Small STEM School “Environmental Care: Water” was held

In the period from December 1 to 4, 2025, at the STEM Centre for Children and Youth in Varaždin, the first cycle of workshops of the Small STEM School “Environmental Care: Water” was held.

Small School lasted 4 days, and the participants spent 2 hours each day studying a new topic:

  1. Water on its way – Let’s discover where the water we drink comes from!
  2. Is the water clean? – Let’s investigate what kind of water we drink!
  3. Water in everyday life – Where does water work for us?
  4. Let’s protect water – our treasure!

Small School was attended by four participants who, together with the facilitator, researched the hydrological cycle, conducted various experiments, and devised their own ways of conserving water.

At the workshops, participants tested the properties of water using various laboratory instruments, built an aquifer and a water filter, drew conclusions about the quality of water and its presence in various professions, created a simulation of a mini car wash, and carried out various other activities that taught them about the importance of water in a creative way.

Small School ended with a short presentation of their conclusions and a small presentation on how they can save water in everyday life. The participants gained a basic understanding of the hydrological cycle, quality analysis and responsible use of water, and acquired the habit of asking questions and thinking about the water they use every day.

The next cycle of Small STEM School workshops, “Environmental Care: Air”, is planned for January 2026, after the school holidays.
