On Saturday, August 23, 2025, the 4th STEM Skills Fest was held in the park behind the Varaždin Cathedral, with a series of short workshops through which participants could learn about some of the STEM skills, such as:
- How to measure basic water parameters: odour, turbidity, temperature, pH, dissolved solids, electrical conductivity, hardness, phosphate, nitrate, nitrite, ammonia, iron, calcium, chloride and potassium content
- How to use a multiparameter photometer, turbidimeter, colourimetric checkers and other field and laboratory measuring devices
- How to conclude, based on the results obtained, whether the water from the sample can be used for drinking, watering the garden, or for other purposes, for example.
STEM Fest activities were held from 10 am to 1 pm and 4 pm to 7 pm, and were attended by approximately two hundred preschool and elementary school children.
The fourth STEM Fest in our project was held as one of the activities at the event SKIIZ – STEM through play and fun, organised by the Society for Promotion of Science, Ecology and Safety from Zagreb, as part of this year’s Špancirfest in Varaždin. The event was organised as one of the activities of the STEP for STEM project.
